Continuous Inkjet Printers - Aluminum-Free Lids For Yogurt And More

Finnish company Walki Group has designed a lid for dairy companies that is recyclable and contains no aluminum in the Walki Lid, according to reports that say many of its customers desire packaging that is completely recyclable.  While most pull-back lids used on single-serve yogurt, cottage cheese and other products are made of aluminum, the Walki Lid is fiber-based.

Arla is one of the customers who has chosen to switch over to the Walki Lid in an effort to make the entire package recyclable as consumers look for sustainable solutions in packaging.  The company was quoted as saying, "We're a very consumer-oriented company and we listen to consumers extremely carefully."  Arla went on to say the customers who choose their company consider sustainability very important.

When it comes to heat resistance, the Walki Lid is comparable to aluminum lids.  The fiber-based lid meets food safety standards and works with current packaging processes; it can be printed on just as aluminum lids are.

Finland-based paper, converting, and packaging company Pyroll produces the lids using Walki's material.  The fiber-based lid provides an exceptional gas and water vapor barrier, and is easy to pull back without tearing.

Arla uses the Walki Lid for its 175g Arla Luonto+ yogurts; the lid is also used for creme fraiche and cottage cheese in Sweden.
