Beverage Packaging - India's Starbucks Rival Offers Cool Cup

With nearly 1,600 locations across the globe including in Egypt, Dubai, Austria, and Malaysia, Café Coffee Day is a Bangladore, India based company that some say rivals the popularity of Starbucks. The latest drink offered up by CCD, as the company is affectionately known, is its Frappe Chill, an iced coffee blend offering unique flavor that customers love to take with them on the go - but even 'cooler' than that is the frothy beverage's packaging! According to recent beverage packaging news reports, the Frappe Chill comes in a thermoformed cup made up of multilayer polypropylene with an EVOH (ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer) barrier layer that prevents oxygen ingress. The cup is manufactured by RPC Bebo, a leader in the manufacturing of thermoformed packaging based in Europe with manufacturing, sales, and distribution centers in Germany, France, England, the Netherlands, and Poland. The innovative cup is retortable, which means heated to an extremely high temperature with product inside to render the chilled coffee sterile; once hot filled, the cup is heated for 30 minutes at 118 degrees Celsius, the equivalent of nearly 245 degrees Fahrenheit. The design of the cup, meant for those who desire convenience and ease when traveling, includes an integrated telescopic straw in the lid that can be contracted and expanded as needed. The colors included in label design (tan and brown hues along with a sprinkle of blue) convey both a youthful feeling and rich coffee tradition to the consumer. A snowflake design sprinkled on the cup gives the consumer a feeling of a refreshing, ice-cold cup of coffee. Senthil Murugan at Café Coffee Day commented that the new cup is "ideal for busy consumers and commuters, and its multilayer construction ensures the quality of the coffee is not compromised throughout its long shelf-life."
