GEA Group Launches Sustainable Packaging In FoodTray

GEA Group has recently launched FoodTray, an ecologically sustainable packaging solution that integrates cardboard carton and film with thermoforming technology.  According to news releases, the FoodTray will be on exhibit November 13 at GEA's Packaging Technology Day in Germany.

GEA partnered with the Roba Group, Van de Velde Packaging, Schur Flexibles Germany and others in the film, engineering, and cardboard industries in developing the sustainable packaging that helps reduce food waste and is more than 80% recyclable.

Greg Austin, GEA's UK sales manager (slicing and packaging equipment), said of the innovative packaging, "FoodTray is a great alternative for customers looking to reduce plastic in packaging without compromising on shelf-life, food safety and presentation."

The ecological carton/film composite packaging uses renewable raw material fibers in place of fossil-based, resulting in 70% less film content.  Once the thermoformer process is complete, companies enjoy the ability to present a high-quality product presentation highlighting brands' commitment to sustainable, recyclable packaging solutions.  The FoodTray's entire surface can be printed with brand information as well, helping products stand apart.
