Girl Scout Packaging Redesign Showcases Entrepreneurial Skills Learned

This year, Girl Scouts celebrated their 100th year on March 12th. The organization decided in 2010 that it was getting time to "freshen up" their brand, and that the 100th anniversary would be the ideal time to do that. Recently, the organization announced that the cookie boxes have been redesigned in an effort to demonstrate to customers the entrepreneurial skills that are taught to the girls through their efforts in selling. The new brand identity was designed to offer a more contemporary appeal to demonstrate to customers that they can reconnect with the organization, and to embody the spirit of Girl Scouting. The package redesign was accomplished after the brand development division of Schawk, Inc. partnered with the Girl Scouts, hoping to accomplish their goal of inspiring consumers as well as getting them engaged and enhancing understanding of the important role that being a Girl Scout plays in girls' lives. While the well-known and recognized trefoil emblem remains on packaging, the design also represents entrepreneurial ideas which include decision making, people skills, business ethics, goal setting and money management. Anna Maria Chavez, Girl Scouts of the USA Chief Executive Officer, said that with more than 50 million cookie customers across the country, the box is the most powerful and tangible way to communicate directly with the customers. Essentially, promoting Girl Scout cookies enables girls in the organization to learn and develop skills which will help them become effective in business in the future, even becoming leaders and making a difference in their communities. The Girl Scout organization began in Georgia a century ago; this is the first packaging "makeover" since 1999. Cookie sales begin this month in October, and run through May. In years past, January and February are the months in which the majority of cookie sales begin. As a leader in industrial printing equipment, Markem-Imaje salutes the Girl Scout organization and congratulates them on this appealing and contemporary new packaging design. We invite manufacturers around the globe to count on us for all of your industrial printing equipment needs!
