Packaging News - 3 New Packaging Developments

Recently in packaging news, three new packaging developments have been revealed that will not only make packaging easier to use, but improve branding and sustainability as well. These optimized developments pertain to foodservice container lids, product dispensing, and zippered pouches, and include: Temkin International's Pocket Zip Pouch, which unlike most other zippered pouches that tear away along the top, provides a built-in tear strip and relocates the zipper along the mouth of the pouch. This makes for increased efficiency in production, and optimizes package space and design. International Paper has come up with a one-piece, fiber-based paper lid that is the first of its kind in North America, and is designed for ease of use, sustainability, and branding options. The paper lids are designed for single use and weigh up to 45% less than other similar lids, because less material is used. The one-piece lid provides manufacturers with space for branding and messaging, as there are no top vent holes but instead a unique pleated design to vent hot foods. The company said unprinted versions of the lids are available, and that the new fiber-based lids meet SFI Chain-of-Custody standards and fit many of the paper food containers manufactured by International Paper's Foodservice division. Last, but not least is the Directional Snap-Top dispensing closure developed by AptarGroup, designed to simplify packaging production, enhance shelf appeal, and provide dispensing that is more precise due to a raised pouring lip. The Directional Snap-Top also offers improved cleanliness due to a contoured, elongated spout and opens wide and away from the spout. At Markem-Imaje, we realize the importance of packaging that makes it easier for consumers who are on-the-go, and for manufacturers who desire improved efficiency and ease on the production line.
