Beer Packaging - Kona Brewing Introduces Year-Round Beer

In August of this year, Kona Brewing Company launched its Hanalei Island IPA year-round beer exclusively in Hawaii.  Recently it was announced the company would be introducing the brew to the U.S. mainland, beginning with California.  Hanalei Island IPA is described as a beer crafted in honor of the "Garden Isle," Kauai, offering a unique fruity blend of passionfruit, guava, and orange.

IPA (Indian pale ale) beers have become extremely popular in the craft beer industry.  According to head of brewery operations at Kona Brewing, Sandi Shriver, the company's desire was to create an IPA that is distinctive and reflects the flavors and spirit of Kauai and the Hawaiian islands, regarded by many as one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Shriver said that POG (passionfruit, orange, guava) was a drink she had never heard of before moving to Hawaii, where it was the first drink she experienced.  Shriver compared the POG to "smelling Hawaii in a glass," saying she was struck by how wonderfully the fruits came together and the amazing fragrance.

The company claims Hanalei Island IPA is ideal for pairing with pizza, tacos, pasta, seafood, and other casual fare often enjoyed in California's warm coastal climate.  Kona Brewing Company plans to distribute the new year-round beer to a wider U.S. audience early next year; however, six-packs are now available at select retailers in California.
