Intertek To Evaluate Product Packaging At New Grand Rapids Facility

Recent news reports say that Intertek, a Total Quality Assurance provider who inspects, tests and certifies packaging and is based in London, UK, is launching its first U.S. packaging performance testing facility in Grand Rapids, MI.  The new facility is Intertek's first in North America to be accredited by ISTA.

A study conducted by StellaService found that about 10% of packages used in e-commerce purchases have some type of damage with the consumer receives them.  Intertek's services include sustainability services, design evaluation and testing to ASTM International, ISTA and other standards to ensure packaging protects products in e-commerce from damage and holds up throughout the process.

Intertek Business Development Manager Brian Kneibel said the company is excited to provide the e-commerce industry with services that ensure the quality and sustainability of their packages, and that the focus of Intertek has been and remains offering services that help customers bring quality and safety to life.  Kneibel said the company has witnessed the rise of e-commerce and advancement of supply chains affect customers in a number of ways, including product packaging.

The new Grand Rapids testing facility will be located at Intertek's existing lab where 2,500 square feet will be dedicated to the new services.  The company employs more than 43,000 people around the world in over 100 countries.  More than 200 are employed at the Grand Rapids lab currently, and the expansion won't create new jobs initially according to Intertek spokeswoman Cheryl Prejsnar, who said additional personnel would likely be added in the future as the facility continues to grow.
