Inkjet Coding - HelloFresh Selects Tetra Recart Cartons

Germany-based meal kit company HelloFresh recently announced the company has chosen Tetra Pak's Tetra Recart cartons for its branded tomatoes, lentils, chickpeas and beans in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.  According to reports, HelloFresh has used the packaging in the U.S. since 2017, and chose it for use in the European markets because of the Tetra Recart cartons' sustainability credentials.

Tetra Pak's Tetra Recart managing director Peter Arvidsson said, "We are pleased to be able to help food producers capture this opportunity with a sustainable package that keeps food fresh and tasty."  HelloFresh has operations in Canada, the U.S., Australia and New Zealand as well, and is currently the largest provider of meal kits in the United States.

Tetra Pak says that compared to glass jars and tin cans, the Recart range provides substantial space and weight savings along with an 80% lower carbon footprint.  HelloFresh Global senior global procurement manager Jakob Schmidt said incorporating the Recart carton into the company's sustainable packaging portfolio helps HelloFresh reduce its carbon footprint via enhanced logistics efficiencies.  Schmidt said, "Tetra Pak's innovative packaging enables HelloFresh to consistently deliver a quality product and a great opening experience for our customers."

Online food spending reached $213 billion in 2018 and is anticipated to reach $625 billion globally by 2023 according to PlanetRetail RNG.  The meal kit category is growing tremendously as consumers desire a more streamlined shopping experience along with services that make meal preparation quicker with less planning, but without compromising ingredient quality.

Tetra Pak Oceania marketing director Jaymie Pagdato said that HelloFresh and Tetra Pak are a natural fit, and that the Recart is comprised primarily of responsibly sourced paper and is completely recyclable.
